Looking after your log burner: care that continues beyond installation
Updated: Sep 27
A new stove gets plenty of attention. The choice of appliance, the hearth, the finish, that first fire. A few winters later, the quieter work of looking after it matters just as much.
At Bingley Chimney, chimney sweeping and stove servicing are at the heart of what we do. Installing a stove is one part of its story. Keeping it properly maintained is an ongoing job.
Some of our customer relationships began with sweeping an open fire. When the time came for a stove, we installed it.

Now we return to sweep and maintain the appliance they chose.
There is something particularly rewarding about that continuity: looking after the same fireplace as the home around it changes.
What happens between one winter and the next?
A stove lives through repeated heating and cooling, ash, soot and everyday use. Door seals, firebricks, baffles and other components all deserve attention as part of its maintenance.
During servicing, inspecting accessible components gives us the opportunity to explain what needs attention and what the next step should be. The work depends on the appliance, its condition and the service booked.
A clean finish is satisfying, but the condition of the parts behind the door matters just as much.
Sweeping and servicing each have a job to do
Chimney sweeping removes soot and deposits from the flue. Stove servicing involves additional attention to the appliance itself.
Both deserve care. Choosing a more comprehensive stove service adds appliance maintenance; every chimney sweep still needs to be carried out thoroughly.
Our chimney sweeping and stove servicing page explains the options and helps you choose an appointment suited to your stove and chimney.
Clear advice is part of proper maintenance
You should understand what has been found during a visit. If a component needs replacing, or a concern needs further investigation, that deserves a straightforward explanation.
Routine maintenance also has its limits. Some parts of a chimney system are concealed, and a sweeping appointment cannot establish the condition of everything hidden from view. Where further investigation is needed, we can discuss the appropriate next step.
Keeping your sweeping certificates and servicing records together also gives you a useful history to refer back to.
A local company for the years ahead
We provide chimney sweeping and stove servicing in Bingley and surrounding West Yorkshire communities, including Baildon, Shipley, Saltaire and Keighley.
For us, a lasting customer relationship is built through the practical details: arriving prepared, protecting the room, working carefully and taking the time to explain our findings.
The installation may be the biggest change your fireplace ever sees. The care that follows deserves the same attention.
Before servicing: soot and ash inside the stove During servicing: firebricks and grate removed for inspection After servicing: the cleaned stove interior
