Which Chimney Sweep or Stove Service Should You Book?

You want the chimney swept, the stove looked after and a date that fits around your day. Then you open the booking page and see lined flues, unlined flues, twin-wall systems and premium servicing. Which one do you need?
At Bingley Chimney, the choice comes down to two things: the type of chimney or flue you have, and whether you want the stove itself serviced as well as the flue swept. Here is our straightforward guide to getting the right appointment booked.
First, choose your flue type
The flue is the passage that carries smoke away from your stove or fireplace. Its construction determines which sweeping appointment to select.
Lined flue
For our stove bookings, “lined flue” means a metal flexible liner runs inside the existing chimney, connecting the stove to the top of the chimney. Choose the Lined Flue option if you know this is your installation.
The short black pipe above a stove does not, by itself, tell you whether there is a liner further up. A stove sitting in a traditional fireplace could have either a lined or an unlined chimney.
Unlined flue
An unlined flue uses the masonry chimney passage itself to carry the smoke, rather than a metal flexible liner. Choose Unlined Flue if this is how your stove is connected.
We allow a longer appointment for our unlined stove services. Selecting the correct option helps us set aside the time needed for your chimney.
Twin-wall flue
A twin-wall system is an insulated metal flue system, often used where there is no existing masonry chimney. It may pass through the building or run up an outside wall. Our booking page has separate Twin Wall Flue options for these installations.
If your paperwork mentions a different system, such as clay or concrete liners, or you simply do not know what is there, contact us before booking. A previous sweeping certificate, installation paperwork or a few photographs can help us advise you. There is no need to climb up, dismantle anything or guess.
Then, choose a sweep or a sweep with premium servicing
Standard chimney sweep
A standard sweep is the choice for routine flue cleaning when the appliance is already maintained and you do not need the additional stove service. We sweep the flue, check accessible areas for obvious concerns and explain anything that needs attention.
Every sweep receives the same professional care. “Premium” describes the additional work on the stove. It does not mean you need to upgrade to get a thoroughly swept chimney.
Sweep & Premium Stove Service
Choose this package when you want the flue swept and the appliance itself given more thorough attention during the same visit. It is particularly useful when stove servicing is due or has been overlooked.
Our premium service includes cleaning and checking the stove glass, door seals, firebricks, baffle, grate and ash pan; attention to hinges, catches and air controls; and care for the stove body. Work is carried out as appropriate to the appliance and its condition, with maintenance needs explained clearly.
You may also have seen us describe this as our Signature Premium Stove Service. On the booking page, look for Sweep & Premium Stove Service and select your flue type.
Replacement parts and a complete door rope replacement are extra. Bird’s nest removal is a separate service. If you already know about a damaged component, tell us beforehand so we can advise on the right next step.

What if you have an open fire?
Go to Open Fireplace Services and choose the option for a standard-size open fire or a large inglenook fireplace. Each has a sweep-only option and a sweep-and-service option. These are separate from the stove packages, so check the description before selecting.
When a different appointment makes more sense
If you have recently moved in and do not know the history of the stove or chimney, our New Homeowner Sweep & Inspection, under Specialised Services, includes sweeping, CCTV inspection and additional checks.
A routine sweep or premium stove service does not include a full CCTV inspection of the concealed flue. If you have concerns about the installation, an unexplained blockage or a known fault, contact us so we can help you choose the appropriate inspection or specialist service.
